Our fostered elephant orphansat the nursery of the elephant orphanage in Nairobi (Kenya). |
As real elephantfriends we are foster parents of three elephant orphans, which are nursed and raised at the elephant orphanage of The David Sheldrick Wildlife Trust, in Nairobi NP and Tsavo East NP in Kenya. (¹)(²)
In July 2004 we personally visited "our" Madiba in Nairobi, and Seraa in Voi (Tsavo East).
(For more photos of this visit, click here).
Unfortunately we missed Wendi, since she was just relocated to the new Ithumba stockade (²).
It was overwhelming to see with our own eyes the love and dedication in raising the orphans and preparing them for their return to wild herds.
At the beginning of 2008 Seraa joined the elephants outside the stockade. The ultimate goal «return to wild herds» has been reached. We adopted Seraa in 2002. We did not renew the fostering of Seraa in april 2008, instead we adopted on April 1, 2008 the latest newcomer Kenia.
We adopted these elephants directly at "The David Sheldrick Wildlife Trust".For information and/or fostering : click here or on the logo More orphans need help, therefore we strongly recommend to support the excellent work of Dr. Daphne Sheldrick. |

We first adopted Madiba through the "Vrienden van de 0lifant" ("Friends of the Elefant"). A well-meant, but amateurish Dutch foundation, that does not keep its promises. We paid for a whole year fostering in 2006, but did not receive the promised quarterly magazines and no DVD. If you speak English we recommend to contact "The David Sheldrick Wildlife Trust" directly, where we continued the adoption of Madiba in 2007 and the ensuing years. If your German is better than English there is a German alternative: http://www.reaev.de/. |
(¹) On June 18th, 2003, Seraa, then 19 months old, was moved from the Nairobi nursery to the elephant orphanage rehab center (the Voi stockade) in Tsavo East National Park (Kenya).
Wendi, at that moment only 7 month old, is acting as the "mini‑matriarch" for the remaining babies at the nursery in Nairobi. For the full story click here.
